SupTronics X1000 NVMe Add-on for Raspberry Pi 5
The Suptronics X1000 is a compact SSD expansion board for Raspberry Pi 5, allowing you to attach 2230 or 2242-format M.2 NVMe drives via the PCIe 2.0/3.0 interface. It supports data transfer rates of up to 8Gbps.
Designed to mount on top of the Raspberry Pi 5, it features a pass-through 40-pin header for continued GPIO access and supports use with other HATs. The low-profile form factor is compatible with the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler.
Mounting holes and the included standoffs help secure the board to your Raspberry Pi 5. A built-in LED indicates read/write drive activity.
You can boot directly from an SSD, improving application load times, file transfer speeds, and performance in tasks like web serving or building a local media server or NAS.

- Not compatible with M.2 SATA SSDs, M.2 PCIe AHCI SSDs, or other M.2 non-NVMe devices
Specifications
- Power supply: 5Vdc +/-5% power via FFC & GPIO pin header, converted to 3.3V max 3.5A to power the SSD
- Ports & Connectors: PCIe connector - 16-pin pitch0.5mm
- SSD connector: M.2 M-Key
- PCIe cable length: 30mm
- PCB Size: 65mm x 56mm
Compatibility
As with all M.2 NVMe adapters for Raspberry Pi 5, certain models of M.2 NVMe SSD (usually with a Phison controller) are best avoided due to compatibility issues.
The following models have been highlighted by SupTronics as having poor compatibility, however other online resources will highlight further models/brands to avoid:
- WD Blue SN550/SN580 series
- WD Green SN350 series
- WD Black SN850 series
Resources
- Software setup/tutorials
- Hardware information and assembly
Package Contents
- 1x SupTronics V1.5 X1000 NVMe Add-on for Raspberry Pi 5
- 1x Screw and stand-off pack
